What is the “lumens” or brightness rating of the light?
The higher the lumens, generally the brighter the light. The lights will typically have this information. Factors like "color rendition" and Kelvin (a rating of the appearance to the naked eye of the coolness of the light emitted - warm to cool makes a difference also.
Lumens are an important number to note, initially, for sure. But just because one light may say 1,000 lumens and another light says just 500 lumens, the truth is that the quality of the LED bulb, how that light is focused, how the LED is made i.e., how many lumens per Watt, may still not be as effective as a lesser 500 lumen rating.
In other words, lumen count is one thing, but the quality of the LED and how effective the lumens are being used for the application is another. A great example - a round, long tube bulb like a fluorescent appears to have an efficient amount of lumens per Watt (lm/W), but since the bulb is round, some of the lumens on the topside are actually not being used very effectively.
Thus LED lumen rating utilization, (the amount of usable light projected) may be effectively lower than the technical calculation of the number stated.
